The Better Living Centre in Solihull works to provide help and support to elderly adults, young disabled adults and carers. It gives free and impartial advice from trained staff and demonstrations of useful gadgets, adaptations and equipment.

You can visit The Better Living Centre to find out about the help that is available for you and the person you care for to live a happy, healthy, safe and independent life in your own home.

Quite often, all it takes for someone to live comfortably, independently and safely in their home is a few items of simple equipment or technology.

The Better Living Centre can help you find the best gadgets, trained staff can show you the equipment in action and you can try before you buy in the demonstration house.

Facilities at The Better Living Centre

The Better Living Centre brings together 4 services under 1 roof:

The centre has 2 wheelchair accessible toilets, one of which has wet room shower facility.

Your visit to The Better Living Centre

The centre offers appointments for customers and drop in visitors are also welcome.

Your appointment will assess your needs and determine what equipment will be suitable and also provide independent and impartial advice for free from Solihull Community Housing Trusted Assessors. There is a duty Occupational Therapist available.

A specialist on site wheelchair assessor is also available at the centre. These assessments are by prior appointment.

The Better Living Centre demonstration house

There are 4 dedicated areas which are set up for you to test equipment. They can let you see how gadgets could help in your:

  • lounge
  • bedroom
  • kitchen
  • garden room

The house also allows you to view and test stair lifts and through floor lifts.

Ask SARA

Ask SARA from the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), is a guided advice tool aimed at helping you find help to live in the best way you can.

It is an award-winning, simple to use solution.

You just choose the topic you are interested in, answer a few simple questions and produce your own report, which:

  • has useful advice written by occupational therapists
  • provides details of products that might help you
  • allows you to answer more topics, print the report at home or email it to friends, relatives or carers
